In the wake of the pandemic the world renown Stone Pony was forced to shutter their doors like others across the world. As 2020 came to a close they were looking to tastefully honor the hard year and create a much needed source of revenue. A limited edition line of merchandise seemed like a fitting tribute for the gritty and timeless musical stomping ground.
The lettering was designed as a homage to the hand painted awning above the venue’s entrance in the 1970’s. The strangely western yet urban hand lettered sign seemed the perfect analogy for perseverance and grit. Red was added to the long standing venue’s color palette of black and white as a subtle nod to the ‘RedAlertRestart’ venue opening campaign. The design quickly became one of the highest selling pieces in the Stone Pony’s history.

Like all live music venues across the country, the Stone Pony was forced to close their doors in 2020 during the pandemic. As restrictions started to soften we were faced with a unique challenge, how could we bring the lifeblood back to the city of Asbury Park? The solution: transform the 5000-capacity lot into a socially-distanced, seated music series + beer garden. The identity marries elements of both the Summer Stage + the Pony’s normal branding, while also taking advantage of a rather fun visual device.
